The Legend Lives On...

The Pacific Northwest is home to many visual gifts including the towering Cascade Mountain Range and the ruggedly beautiful Pacific coastline.  There are hundreds of miles of heavily timbered woodlands, waterways, tributaries, rain forests, wilderness and high desert landscapes.  These regions are rich with wildlife including deer, elk, antelope, bear, coyotes, cougar, lynx and bobcat, among many others.  The legend begins with an elusive creature of great stealth freely roaming in these areas – the Bobcat.

A young woman by the name of Carol Ann Brewer had a passionate interest in the unusual, stocky built, often bob-tailed cats with wild appearance, that were occasionally being found in remote regions of the Northwest, namely Washington, where she lived. The first three cats  that Carol acquired were found in the Pacific Northwest in remote barns or near outlying homesteads.  All three had distinct Bobcat-like appearance but no proof of Bobcat genes when they were DNA tested. When two of these early cats bred there was born a lovely female kitten in that litter –a  haunting,  unforgettable beauty she named, “Pixie”.  The Pixie-Bob breed has transpired from this cat – a vision to the eye and balm to the human spirit.  What an unusual creature Pixie was to capture the attention, love and commitment she inspired!

Similar cats found in these areas in the years following, Carol called, “Legend Cats” – cats of unknown origin, very unusual with mysterious and unexplained wild traits, always reminding Carol of the Northwest Bobcats. It could be possible that bobcats were and still are breeding with feral and domestic cats or even something we’ve not yet found.  Many of these cats had unmistakable traits of wildness even though the DNA tests proved negative for wild ancestry.  Thus the shroud of mystery covered the emerging legend of the Pixie-Bob, named appropriately after Carol’s beloved Pixie girl.

The journey of the Pixie-Bob breed, from their early days in 1985, to the present brings us to deliberate conclusions:

·        The foundation cats and continuing found wild Legend cats have emerged as indigenous cats found in the Pacific Northwest.

·        Pixie-Bobs are a domestic breed now registered with TICA and ACFA.

·        These cats bear resemblance to the Bobcat in their stocky construction and often perfectly articulated bobtails, with similar structure, looks and behaviors.

·        The Pixie-Bob cats have unexplained and unusual traits (including the unmistakable Ocilla on the backs of their ears only found in wild or early generation wild hybrid cats), as well as unique temperaments and vocalizations.

These are the facts.  This is why the legend lives on…

If you are a free spirit and love animals – if you crave adventure and have a flair for the extraordinary, if you love the remote places of the earth and the creatures who inhabit such places,  maybe a Pixie-Bob kitten would be that special bit of grace to give you a comforting and homey sense of place.

The Boys

Colt is a young, beautiful boy and as sweet as they come.  He is soulful, gentle, unassuming and very affectionate with ear tufts that can't be missed. His huge feet, coloring, spotting pattern and stunning undercoat of charcoal gray completes this package of historic beauty.  His strong chin, beautiful wild eyes and his gentle temperament are all attributes we breed for and expect Colt to pass on to his kittens.    It is our honor to be blessed with this legendary male from the last litter produced at Native Dream.

Excerpt from a note from Carol Brewer to Mary Gilbert regarding Colt 45...

** "Okay, I have studied these pictures completely, comparing them to pictures I have of Stone Island Bobby Woodruff....he is virtually a "dead-ringer" for Bobby and I have NEVER seen any cat; not a son, a grandson or anyone else related to Bobby have his EXACT look. But all the traits are even stronger in Colt than in Bobby.  Colt 45 not only resembles Bobby Woodruff more than any Pixie Bob produced to this date he is actually superior to Bobby in many ways. They both have the deep, close set eyes; the wonderful, wild, pear-shape head; the wild, rufus, plush medium-coat having a very deep mouse-gray base coat; and a fleshy, equilateral, diamond shaped muzzle. But all these are more dramatic and exaggerated in form in Colt than in Bobby. His pedigree reveals the reason why he not only resembles but surpasses the wonderful characteristics of his ancestor, Stone Island's Bobby Woodruff."       - Carol Ann Brewer    (**Quote used by permission)

To put it briefly...Colt 45 comes cocked and fully loaded!

Introducing:

Daze O Grace's Tuff Guy Ta Beat

"Tuffy"

Above - 9 months

From the time Tuffy was tiny he would bobble out of the nest and find his way to whomever came into the room.  He would cry loudly to be picked up and cuddled.  As he grew he displayed wonderful temperament traits that we are very proud of.  Feeding time brings the gang running to the food bowls but there is only so much room and Tuffy always gives up his place at the bowl for the other cats.  He goes back and eats after the big push is over without a care in the world.  This boy is extremely easy going, sweet natured, lovely to the eye,  and growing into a very big boy.  We have great hopes for him in our breeding program so we're keeping our eye on this Tuff Guy!

Native Dream and Stone Island lines.

The Girls

Native Dream's "Lacey" Buckshot

We call Lacey "in charge Marge".  She is a girl that knows what she wants and when she wants it.  She comes to her name on a dead run like a dog, follows us everywhere, loves deeply, and is a great mom.  If Lacey sees a "strange animal" on the deck or while she's outside in the enclosure she will hit the glass door or fence on a catapulting body slam!  I was shocked the first time I saw her spring into action.  Stay out of the way...this girl is comin' through!  She's built like a wrestler, very stout with the most amazing bobcat coat I've ever seen.  She is well named as her coat looks like a spattering of buckshot lace. Lacey redefines a cat in a dog suit! We value this Native Dream queen and love her dearly.

Native Dream's Fancy Pants

(Retired and reserved for Zosia!)

Fancy is retired and will be leaving for her new home within the next couple of months.

Kitten Adoption Information

KITTEN ADOPTION

If you are interested in adopting one of our kittens, the process is quite simple.  We require you to fill out a two page questionnaire that we'll send you via email, at your request.  You can fill it out and  email  it back to us and after we look it over we'll contact you.  If you would like to be on a reservation list we require a $100 non-refundable deposit to hold your place for a kitten.  If after the kittens are born there is not a kitten to your satisfaction, you can either be refunded for your deposit or wait until another litter is produced for your kitten. If no kitten is produced by the second litter to your satisfaction, you will be refunded your deposit.  Once a kitten is chosen your deposit becomes non-refundable.

 PRICE OF PIXIE BOB KITTENS

Kittens are priced by quality, color, size, sex and traits.  Our prices vary from $900-1200.  The non-standard colors vary within that range as well.  Sometimes the prices may be lower or higher depending on the kitten.  Polydactyl footed kittens are $1500.

CLARIFYING OUR INTENTIONS AS BREEDERS

Our goal is to produce stunning kittens from the best of the old Northwest lines, and by doing so exceed your expectations. We have chosen to concentrate on producing healthy, well socialized, gorgeous pets for the discerning cat fancier. (After raising dogs for years I have a short attention span for animal breeding politics.)  All kittens will be altered prior to leaving Daze O Grace.  Kittens come with a health guarantee, up to date on vaccines and worming, altered, vet checked and in good health.  Our kittens are sold with a contract agreement and may not be resold, given away, or surrendered to any kind of rescue or humane society without contacting Daze O Grace first and accepting any help we might be able to lend.   We are F.T.L.O.P. Certified Breeder Associate.  Blue list lines.

NOTE:    We do not sell breeding cats or kittens to other breeders, nor do we place kittens by second parties.  We only place kittens to approved pet homes that are actually going to keep the kitten.  We are not currently showing our cats, although some of them are finished champions and we're very proud of their accomplishments.

TIME LINE FOR PLACING KITTENS

Kittens stay in our home until they are emotionally ready to be adopted which is usually between 10-12 weeks old.   Taking a kitten too early can easily affect them adversely for their entire life.  So, it's best to be patient and get the best developed kitten, giving it all the advantages you can.  The new protocol for giving vaccines has also changed in the past few years so we vaccinate them first at 9 weeks, second at 12 weeks.

SHIPPING

We do ship kittens by the time they are 12 weeks old in the continental USA.  We highly prefer to have you come and pick up in person but if that is impossible, we can certainly ship.  The approximate cost usually runs about $300 - 400.  This includes the airfare, shipping crate and the airline health certificate from our vet.  All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer, arrangements being made by the breeder.

The Pixie-Bob Breed Founder

Breed founder, Carol Ann Brewer, sharing a snack with a

very special Pixie Bob.

Much is said about all the politics involved in the development of a cat breed and the Pixie-Bobs are no exception.  However, I am deeply touched with the absolute love Carol Brewer has for the Pixie-Bob cats and kittens that share her life. Carol is the Pixie-Bob breed founder and whether they are hers or someone else's she loves these precious souls, one and all, and when one of them comes into her view her entire countenance softens and it always brings a smile. They are the light of her life.  Thank you, Carol Ann, for your immense contribution to our world!

Note of Thanks and Appreciation

My special thanks to Carol Brewer and Mary Gilbert for taking me under their wing and closely mentoring me as I begin to experience this wonderful dream of the Pixie Bob world. Special thanks as well for entrusting your valued lines with me, a mere beginner.

Thank you girls for being such dear and trusted friends and mentors.
